WALMART OSCARS SPONSORSHIP
THE RECEIPT
It was a breakthrough moment for Walmart — stepping into the limelight as presenting sponsor of the Oscars. But what could America’s largest retailer say on Hollywood’s biggest stage?
Our plot unfolded from a simple idea: Every Receipt Tells a Story. To prove it, we gave four A-list directors a Walmart receipt and total creative freedom to craft original films for the broadcast. Our social activation let the idea belong to everyone — with fans generating their own story-receipts throughout the week.
The Receipt earned glowing reviews, 1.3 billion impressions, and 85% positive sentiment — establishing Walmart as a brand that belongs in the starring role.

I figured that if every receipt tells a story, then every story must have its own unique receipt.
This idea became the concept of our social and activations.
This was the year of the “envelope gate” mixup. Gifting our war room with bonus material for an unforgettable night.
